The Tech Museum of Innovation is a family-friendly interactive science and technology center located in the heart of downtown San Jose, California. It has become a landmark for visitors seeking a glimpse of the most inventive place on Earth — Silicon Valley.
Bowers Institute at The Tech
The Bowers Institute at The Tech offers online resources, workshops and a multi-year intensive program, the Tech Academies of Innovation, designed for educators to build their skills in all aspects of Design Challenge Learning (DCL) and gain confidence with cutting-edge tools for STEM teaching. Through tested and engaging professional learning experiences combining project-based learning, design thinking and the engineering design process, educators are inspired and guided to implement DCL, connect to Next Generation Science Standards and prepare their students to solve real-world problems.
Resources for Educators:
These resources will help you bring engineering design challenges into your classroom.
The Tech Academies of Innovation:
The Tech Academies of Innovation is a partnership with schools in underserved communities to build model programs for teaching STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). Our program — in partnership with San Jose State University, RAFT, the Santa Clara County Office of Education and Region 5 Expanded Learning Partnerships, San Jose Public Library and Santa Clara County Library — selects teacher leaders in Grades 4-8 and expanded learning providers to join a network of model STEM programs that nurture the next generation of Silicon Valley innovators. Participants enjoy over 100 hours of cross-curricular professional development that help educators bring engineering design into their classrooms in ways that support Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards. Supports focus on the engineering design process, mechanical engineering, software engineering and 21st-Century Skills.
